Sellafield Land Quality website

Sellafield Ltd has responsibility for managing the Sellafield nuclear licensed site on the West Cumbrian coast. The website link below gives a background to the Sellafield site, the setting, history, current understanding of the land quality, management approach and current programme of work.

NDA National Stakeholder group (NSG) papers published

Papers for the NDA's National Stakeholder Group meeting on 21-22 May are now published at: http://www.nda.gov.uk/documents/

You can also find the same information by going to the stakeholders and community page of www.nda.gov.uk and scrolling down to the bottom of the page.

You will see that some of the papers have key questions at the end (e.g. Document reference NSG44 and others) which will form the focus of discussions at the meeting. Although not a formal consultation, comments are welcome from non-attendees on these questions, by 22 May.

Become a SAFEGROUNDS network member

The SAFEGROUNDS Learning Network is a forum for developing and disseminating good practice guidance on the management of radioactively and chemically contaminated land on nuclear and defence sites in the UK.
CIRIA produces an e-newsletter three times a year to update all stakeholders on any developments with the SAFEGROUNDS Learning Network. Individuals who are interested in the work of SAFEGROUNDS can sign up as a network member.

Published guidance

In the last Newsletter we highlighted the new published guidance from the SAFEGROUNDS Learning Network. To remind you of what they are and where to find them, they have been listed below for your convenience:-

Record keeping is one of the SAFEGROUNDS five key principles for the management of contaminated land on nuclear and defence sites. This guidance document has been produced to address the need for clarity on the drivers for land quality records management and to provide practical guidance on the land quality information that should be recorded, the form in which this information should be kept and how record keeping systems should be structured and maintained. The SAFEGROUNDS regulatory framework paper reflects developments over the period from September 2005 to August 2007. The paper provides a factual summary of the key features of the UK regulatory framework for the management of contaminated land on nuclear-licensed sites and defence sites.
